In order for a seminar discussion to be productive, everyone needs to be prepared to participate. Being prepared for class does not mean that you have a perfect understanding of what we are talking about. Rather, it means that you have reflected on what you can get out of class and what you can contribute to class to make it productive for yourself and for everyone, and you are ready to ask questions, make comments, and listen and respond to other people’s ideas. Participating in class does not always mean talking a lot in class. Rather it means being present, engaged, and willing to make your best effort to contribute, even if it means doing something new and unfamiliar.
