Take-home essay exam

The second major assignment for this unit is a take-home essay exam which will consist of several short essay questions. You will choose four to answer. Each response should directly answer the question, but also discuss aspects of your thinking in detail, reflecting on the larger themes and debates of the course. A good answer can be any length, but need not exceed 300 words, or one page, double-spaced.

The questions will be circulated one week before the exam is due, and will be posted on Blackboard.

This is an open-book, open-notes exam. As with all exams, though, no collaboration is allowed after the exam has been released. Observe the Honor Code as it applies to plagiarism and other kinds of academic dishonesty, just as you would with essays and exams. Also, you may use sources as you would in an essay; actually that's a good thing to do! There is no minimum or maximum number of readings you must use, unless noted in the exam question. Just remember: this is your chance to show us what you have learned and thought about all of the readings and topics of this class. Also, when you discuss a text or quote an author, cite your sources, OK?

Submit one document on Blackboard/Turnitin by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday 11 June. Start each of the four essays on a new page (that is, insert a page break between different essays). Include the essay number and the text of the essay prompt at the beginning of each essay response.

Format each response as you would an essay. That is, put your name on the top of each response, the date, the unit number and name, and the question you are answering. Your answer should be formatted as an essay: double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, with 2cm margins on all sides.

The exam is due on 11 June at noon on the unit Blackboard.

Best wishes for a frank and productive end-of-fiscal-year period.
